As per the Environment and Climate Change Canada, the temperature in Winnipeg reached 37 degrees Celsius, shattering the previous record of 33.3 degrees established in the city 134 years ago (ECCC).

On Sunday, new records were set in other areas with long-standing records. Carman’s 36.9 C broke the previous record of 32.8 C set in 1911. The temperature in Sprague on Sunday was 34.8 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly higher than the previous record of 34.4 degrees Fahrenheit established in 1933.

Winkler hit 36.7 degrees, breaking the previous record of 34 degrees in 1986, while Morden hit 36.7 degrees, also breaking the previous record of 34 degrees in 1986.

Steinbach achieved a new temperature record of 35.9 degrees Celsius. Its previous high of 32 C was attained in 1995.

The temperature at Pilot Mound reached 35.1 degrees, breaking the previous record of 31.3 degrees established in 1986.

HEAT WARNINGS ARE STILL IN EFFECT IN THE SOUTHEAST

While the ECCC’s heat advisories for most of southern Manitoba have now mostly expired, a heat alert for the southeastern half of the province was still in effect as of 7:10 a.m. Monday.

The ECCC forecasts temperatures near 30 degrees in the following areas on Monday:

  • Roseau River is included in the Emerson-Franklin municipality.
  • De Salaberry R.M., including St-Pierre-Jolys and St. Malo
  • Hanover R.M., including Steinbach, Niverville, and Grunthal.
  • Marchand and R.M. of La Broquerie
  • Ritchot R.M., including St. Adolphe and Ste. Agathe
  • Richer, R.M. of Ste. Anne
  • Stuartburn R.M., including Zhoda Vita and Sundown
  • Tache R.M., including Lorette Ste-Geneviève and Landmark.
