Key Takeaways:

  • According to leaks, the iPhone 14 will have a massive redesign, hardware upgrades, and a punch-hole camera in the front with no display notch.

Although the buzz surrounding the recently released iPhone 13 is still alive and well, rumors about the next model have already begun to circulate. Leaks point to a significant redesign, hardware upgrades, and introducing a new punch-hole camera with no notch.

Design or features of the Apple iPhone 14

The backside of the iPhone 14 is expected to be made of titanium and protected by a glass surface. It is essentially based on the building design of the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 4, making it more robust.

The new phones will also be free of the infamous camera bump, according to 3D renders provided by renowned tipster Jon Prosser. Instead, it will have a thicker flush glass back that lays over the rounded edges.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will replace the display notch with a punch-hole camera. LG will supply the OLED display panels, which will support a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate.

We can also expect the company to use a USB Type-C connector for data transfers or charging.

This is partly during to the European Union’s new rule, which requires all mobile manufacturers to use a single universal charging solution, resulting in less e-waste. However, according to Jon Prosser, Apple may still keep its lightning ports.

A new, more powerful A16 Bionic processor with a 4nm chip process is expected to power the device. Although all devices will have the same 120Hz ProMotion display, analyst Ross Young notes that the base variant will have a standard 60Hz LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) display.

The base and pro models will have a 6.06-inch display with a 2532 x 1170 resolution, while the Max and Pro Max models will have a 6.68-inch display with a 2778 x 1284 resolution. It’s also worth noting that only the Pro Max model has an LTPO display, which, as previously stated, is supplied by LG. Only time will tell if this translates to a punch-hole camera setup exclusive to the Pro Max.
