- The Yellowknife Elks Lodge put animal welfare at the top of its priority list this holiday season, donating $10,000 to the NWT SPCA on Dec. 18.
- “We were completely unprepared for such a generous donation,” said Nicole Spencer, president of the NWT SPCA.
“We were beaming to receive such a thoughtful gift.” “Ten thousand dollars is a significant sum.” The cheque was presented to Spencer by current president Jennie Howie and her daughter June and Nicole Bonnell, former president of the local Elks.
According to Howie, the funds were allocated after consulting with various organizations about their needs through activities such as raffles and bingos.
According to the president of the NWT SPCA, the funds will be used for medical expenses and other general organization operations. “This will undoubtedly benefit the health and welfare of our animals,” she stated.
In terms of medical costs, this includes vaccines, deworming, and the majority of sterilizations. “All of the animals that we take in require basic medical care,” Spencer explained. According to Spencer, the NWT SPCA is grateful for the community response and the organization’s funds.
“We are overjoyed with our community’s generosity,” she said. “We are so grateful and fortunate to live in a community that cares so much about us.” In addition, the general public and local businesses are fantastic! We couldn’t function without them.”
